Although I did a little bit of HTML coding as a kid, I was drawn into Visual Basic at the recommendation of a teacher, and using a tutorial and compiler provided to me on a poorly labeled CD-R disc, I created my first “Pong” style game. I was ecstatic at the simple fact that I could change the slightest variables and customize my gameplay experience. What an amazing experience it would have been to have a bootleg of “Visual Studios” from back then! I built my first desktop pc in the early 2000s in hopes of playing early first-person shooters such as Quake, Counter-Strike, and Unreal Tournament. Using an Pentium 4 processor and less than a gigabyte of memory (RAM), I used my allowance money to help create a list of parts. I remember that the first video card I purchased was an Nvidia Geforce MX 420, a card that most would certainly consider deprecated today, and I would be surprised if it still holds up for basic photo editing or even watching YouTube Videos. On the plus side, I was able to run my games with a resolution of “1024 x 768” pixels. Nowadays, I play everything from early retro games from ATARI onwards as well as modern AAA titles, with games like Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA V Online, Witcher 3, and Cyberpunk being my current go-to games for casual play. I would love to hear from y’all about your gaming stories and preferences
